Rethink Education For Moral Empowerment
We are passing through a period of transition from youth to maturity. Words including worry, violence, ethnic and religious cleansing, gender discrimination, moral degradation and gun shooting in schools have lost their unique impact. at the same time, we hear of concerted efforts being made across the world towards world peace, tolerance, reciprocity and unity.
A move toward global citizenship and education and the endeavour towards mobilising humanity to fulfil the sustainable development goals set by the United nations, are all positive symptoms of optimistic measures being mooted by way of today’s thought leaders. There are parallel processes going on in the globe today: the disintegration of the old, fragmented global order and the crystallisation of a new global civilisation.
Individual Action
We generally tend to look for instantaneous and realistic answers. is this possible? The query then arises, who's responsible to bring about the important change which could make the world a better place? every one of us, as people, need to take action. However would that not require a strong sense of reason? because only when you have a robust experience of purpose, you may be inspired to take charge of your intellectual and spiritual growth and at the same time, make extensive contributions that enable the transformation of society.
Fundamental to the realisation of such an approach is the development of a firm conviction in the inherent nobility of human nature. Many questions arise: How can the process of education nurture that inherent nobility in us? How can the educational system empower a child to become a protagonist of his personal increase and improvement, and turn out to be a responsible global citizen? How can the procedure encourage adolescents and youth to have interaction in social action and make contributions to the transformation of society?
We need to consider what type of capabilities would imbue the learner with an understanding of concepts, ideas, skills, abilities, characteristics and attitudes which are so crucial for the advancement of civilisation. What must represent the elements of an evolving conceptual framework that could guide action and enhance the twofold reason in each child and youth? What are its implications for the school education system?
These questions are the concern of every stakeholder on this rewarding journey of education – a journey that by no means ends, and in which every degree of life is filled with numerous possibilities and challenges. It calls for no less than a rethinking of education.
Education System
For this process to be pursued in a humble posture of learning, it is vital to seriously examine the contemporary technique to education. Let’s introduce radical changes that retain lessons of the past at the same time as it introduces and implements new ideas. A wealth of expertise is to be had on the importance of moral empowerment and the need for bringing approximately a change in character, mind-set and attitudes of adolescents and youth.
The operating principle for this should be the oneness and wholeness of humanity. On this regard, the efforts of the global Baha’i community deserve serious study and attention.
